Eligibility Criteria
Before applying, carefully check the eligibility requirements.
1. Educational Qualification
- Must possess a medical qualification included in the National Medical Council (NMC) Act, 2019.
- It is mandatory to hold a permanent registration with either the NMC, MCI, or any State Medical Council.
- Postgraduate degree holders (recognized by NMC/NBE/State Medical Council) are also eligible.
- Candidates must have passed Final MBBS (Part I & II) in not more than two attempts.
- Must have appeared in the NEET PG Exam (2024 or 2025).
- Civilian doctors with a PG degree will not need to appear again, their previous NEET PG marks will be considered.
2. Internship Completion
- Only those who have completed their internship by 31 July 2025 are eligible to apply.
3. Age Limit (As on 31 December 2025)
- MBBS Degree Holders: Must not have attained 30 years (Born on or after 02 Jan 1996).
- PG Degree Holders: Must not have attained 35 years (Born on or after 02 Jan 1991).
Selection Process
The AFMS Medical Officer selection is multi-stage and competitive.
Stage 1: Shortlisting
- Applications will be scrutinized based on NEET PG scores.
- The obtained scores shall be standardized on a 200-point scale as “computed NEET PG marks.”
- Separate merit lists for male and female candidates will be prepared.
Stage 2: Interview
- Selected applicants shall attend the interview at Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi Cantonment.
- Viva-voce marks carry a maximum of 50 marks.
- Candidates must secure at least 50% in the interview to qualify.
- Travel allowance (AC III/Chair Car or Govt bus fare) is reimbursed for first-time candidates.
Stage 3: Medical Examination
- Candidates who clear the interview undergo a Special Medical Board (SMB) test.
- If declared “UNFIT,” they can appeal before an Appeal Medical Board (AMB).
- Final review may be granted by a Review Medical Board (RMB) at DGAFMS discretion.
- Pregnancy at any stage after interview/medical exam renders the candidate temporarily unfit.
Stage 4: Final Merit List
- Combined marks from NEET PG (out of 200) + Interview (out of 50) = Final Score.
- Separate male and female merit lists will be prepared.
- Candidates declared medically fit and within merit will be offered joining as SSC Officers.
Salary & Benefits

Tenure of Engagement
- Initial Tenure: 5 years (SSC)
- Extension: Can be extended up to 14 years (5 + 5 + 4 years), based on performance and vacancies.
- Ex-AMC/SSC Officers: Can re-apply within 1 year of release (with conditions).
Permanent Commission (PC) Option
SSC Officers can apply for a Departmental Permanent Commission (DPC):
- Eligible after 2 years of service and before completing 9.5 years.
- Maximum 3 attempts allowed (with not more than 2 in the first tenure).
- Permanent Commission officers can further rise to the rank of Lt. General.
Training & Specialization Opportunities
- Permanent Commission Officers: Eligible for MD/MS/DNB after 4 years of service. Can pursue super-specialization before the age of 40, based on merit.
- SSC Officers: Can pursue PG courses while in service. After release, ex-SSC officers can apply for PG seats in AFMS institutions.
