AIIMS Guwahati, recognized as an Institute of National Importance, is rapidly expanding its medical and academic infrastructure. To ensure continuous delivery of high-quality patient care, the institute is recruiting Senior Residents in multiple departments, covering both clinical and non-clinical specialties. Senior Residency provides an excellent opportunity for postgraduate medical graduates and certain non-medical postgraduates to gain advanced training and research exposure. The positions offered are purely tenure-based for three years and include various allowances as admissible to Central Government employees.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must carefully review the eligibility conditions before applying, as applications not meeting these requirements will be rejected.

Educational Qualifications

1. For Medical Candidates (MD/MS/DNB/MDS)

Applicants must possess a postgraduate medical degree (MD/MS/DNB) or equivalent qualification in the relevant discipline from a recognized university or institute.

Examples:

  • MD in General Medicine for General Medicine and related super-specialties
  • MS in General Surgery for surgical super-specialty departments
  • MD in Paediatrics for Neonatology
  • MD in Pathology for Transfusion Medicine
  • MD in Emergency Medicine or relevant qualifications for Trauma & Emergency Medicine
  • MDS for Dentistry (whenever applicable)

2. For Non-Medical Candidates (Certain Departments)

Some non-clinical departments accept non-medical qualifications.

  • Anatomy: M.Sc. + PhD in Human Anatomy
  • Physiology: M.Sc. + PhD in Medical Physiology / Physiology
  • Biochemistry: M.Sc. + PhD in Medical Biochemistry / Biochemistry
  • Microbiology: M.Sc. + PhD in Medical Microbiology / Microbiology

Age Limit

  • Maximum Age Limit: 45 years as on the date of publication of recruitment notice

Age Relaxation:

  • SC / ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD (UR): 10 years
  • PwBD (OBC): 13 years
  • PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years

No age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC candidates applying for unreserved (UR) vacancies.

Other Eligibility Conditions

  • Candidates must have all qualifications recognized by the Government of India.
  • Experience will be counted up to the date of the advertisement publication.
  • Those already working in government institutions must apply through proper channel or produce an NOC during the interview.
  • Applications may be rejected if a candidate fails to furnish correct documents or suppresses essential information.

Salary Structure

Senior Residents at AIIMS Guwahati will receive salary and allowances as per the Central Residency Scheme.

Pay Scale:

  • Level 11 of the Pay Matrix (7th CPC)
  • Entry Pay: ₹67,700 per month
  • Plus NPA (Non-Practising Allowance) – applicable to medical candidates
  • Plus admissible central government allowances

Accommodation may be provided subject to availability; otherwise, HRA will be given.

Application Fee

Candidates must pay the following fees while submitting the online application:

  • UR / OBC: ₹1000 + transaction charges
  • SC / ST / EWS: ₹500 + transaction charges
  • PwBD: No fee

The fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Selection Process

The recruitment will be conducted through a transparent and merit-based interview process.

1. Scrutiny of Applications

After receiving online applications, AIIMS Guwahati will verify eligibility, documents, category certificates, and qualifications of each candidate.

2. Publication of Eligible Candidate List

A list of shortlisted candidates eligible for the interview will be uploaded on the institute’s website.

3. Interview

  • The interview is the only mode of selection.
  • Candidate performance, academic records, and specialization suitability will be assessed.

4. Document Verification

After the interview, selected candidates must undergo document verification.

5. Final Merit List

  • Separate merit lists will be prepared for UR, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS categories.
  • Waiting lists will also be generated.

6. Offer of Appointment

Final appointment offers will be issued only after successful document verification and clearance from the recruitment authorities.

Important Instructions

  • Applications submitted after the last date will not be accepted.
  • All certificates uploaded must be valid and in prescribed formats.
  • The OBC certificate must be issued on or after 01 April 2025 and should mention non-creamy layer status.
  • EWS certificate must also be issued on or after 01 April 2025 based on income for the financial year 2024-25.
  • Candidates must upload a clear photograph and signature; unclear images will lead to rejection.
  • Private practice of any kind is strictly prohibited during tenure.
  • Canvassing, misleading information, or misconduct results in disqualification.
  • The institute reserves the right to modify the recruitment process, change vacancies, or cancel the recruitment without prior notice.
