The recruitment drive offers a total of 33 vacancies for the posts of District Sports Officer, Assistant Director (Sports), Assistant Director (Youth), and Lecturer in Sports and Physical Education Colleges. Vacancy Details

The total number of vacancies announced is 33, distributed across different categories in line with Bihar’s reservation policies. Additionally, there is horizontal reservation for women and persons with disabilities.

Category-wise Vacancy Distribution

  • Unreserved (General): 13 posts (including 5 reserved for women)
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 3 posts (including 1 reserved for women)
  • Scheduled Caste (SC): 5 posts (including 2 reserved for women)
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST): 1 post (no separate women’s reservation)
  • Extremely Backward Class (EBC): 6 posts (including 2 reserved for women)
  • Backward Class (BC): 4 posts (including 1 reserved for women)
  • Backward Class Women (BCL): 1 post

Special Reservations

  • Freedom Fighter Quota: 1 post reserved for the grandchildren of freedom fighters recognized by the Government of India.
  • PwBD Reservation: 4% horizontal reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), specifically for categories such as Visually Impaired (VI), Deaf and Dumb (DD), Orthopedic Handicap (OH), and Multiple Disabilities (MD).

Out of the 33 posts, 11 seats are horizontally reserved for women (35% reservation).

Salary Scale

The posts under this recruitment fall in Pay Level 6 of the 7th Pay Commission. While the exact amount will depend on allowances and other benefits, Pay Level 6 generally corresponds to an approximate monthly salary ranging between ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400, along with additional benefits such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Medical Benefits, and Pension under the Bihar Government rules.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the BPSC Sports Service recruitment, candidates must fulfill both academic qualifications and sports achievements criteria.

Educational Qualification

  1. Graduate Degree: A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university is mandatory.
  2. Professional Qualification in Sports Coaching (any one of the following):
    • Diploma in Sports Coaching from Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (under the Sports Authority of India) in the relevant sport.
    • Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching (PGDSC) from Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior.
    • PGDSC from a Central Sports University or any UGC-recognized Sports University including Bihar Sports University.

Sports Achievements (Mandatory)

In addition to academic qualifications, candidates must also possess sports achievements. The requirement is as follows:

  • Represented India in recognized international competitions.
  • Represented the State in national or international championships such as Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games.
  • Participated at least twice in All India Inter University Championships, Recognized Junior Championships, or National Youth Championships.
  • Participated at least thrice in Inter Services Competitions, All India Police Games, or Inter Railway Championships.

These achievements are not optional; they are compulsory as per the Bihar Sports Service (Recruitment and Service Conditions) Rules, 2025.

Age Limit

The minimum and maximum age limits as of 1st August 2025 are:

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age:
    • Unreserved (Male): 37 years
    • Unreserved (Female), Backward Class (Male/Female), and Extremely Backward Class (Male/Female): 40 years
    • Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (Male and Female): 42 years

Age Relaxation

  • Government Employees: 5 years relaxation, provided they have not already used up the maximum of 5 attempts in BPSC examinations.
  • Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): 10 years relaxation.
  • Ex-Servicemen: 3 years + duration of military service, provided the age does not exceed 57 years at the time of application.

Application Fees

Candidates are required to pay the application fee through online mode only.

  • General Candidates: ₹600
  • SC/ST of Bihar State: ₹150
  • Female Candidates (Bihar residents only): ₹150
  • PwBD Candidates: ₹150

Applicants from outside Bihar, irrespective of category, must pay ₹600.

Selection Process

The selection process will be conducted in three stages:

Stage 1 – Written Examination

  1. Hindi Language (Qualifying Paper)
    • 100 marks, 3 hours
    • Candidates must score at least 30% (qualifying only, not counted in merit).
    • Questions from essay, grammar, sentence structure, and precis writing.
  2. Two Objective Papers (MCQ-based)
    • Paper I (100 marks, 2 hours): Sports, Sports Training, Sports Psychology, Anatomy, Sports Physiology, Sports Management, and Communication Technology.
    • Paper II (100 marks, 2 hours): Sports Training Theories, Media and Sports, Sports Associations, Sports Institutions, Sports Awards.

Stage 2 – Evaluation of Sports Achievements and Academic Background

  • Sports Achievements: Maximum 50 marks, depending on the level of competitions (Olympics, World Championships, National Games, Inter-University, etc.).
  • Graduate and Professional Courses in Sports: Maximum 35 marks, based on degrees/diplomas such as Bachelor in Physical Education, PG Diploma, Master’s in Sports Coaching, or Ph.D. in Sports Science.

Stage 3 – Interview

  • Interview Marks: 15
  • Candidates will be shortlisted for interview at the ratio of 2.5 times the number of vacancies based on their performance in the written exam and evaluation of sports/academic credentials.

Final Merit

The merit list will be prepared on the basis of Written Exam (200 marks) + Sports Achievements (50 marks) + Academic/Professional Courses (35 marks) + Interview (15 marks) = Total 300 marks.

Reservation Policy

  • SC/ST/OBC/EBC Candidates: Reservation benefits only for permanent residents of Bihar.
  • Women Reservation: 35% horizontal reservation across categories.
  • PwBD Reservation: 4% horizontal reservation across categories, subject to medical verification.
  • Freedom Fighter Quota: 1 seat reserved for descendants of freedom fighters.
  • EWS Reservation: 10% for economically weaker sections of Bihar residents.

Candidates must submit valid caste, domicile, non-creamy layer, income, and disability certificates (if applicable) issued by competent authorities.

Exam Syllabus Overview

The written exam will test candidates on:
