The Office of the District & Sessions Judge, Barnala, has released a public notice inviting applications for the recruitment of clerical and stenographic positions on an adhoc basis. This initiative is aimed at filling up vacant posts of Clerk (25 posts) and Stenographer Grade-III (7 posts). These appointments are intended initially for a six-month tenure or until the regular appointments are made by the Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh, whichever occurs earlier. Eligible candidates can submit their applications using the prescribed proforma (Annexure-B) along with attested copies of relevant documents, including proof of educational qualification, age, category, and other supporting certificates. The recruitment is open for two primary positions:

1. Clerk (Adhoc) – Total Posts: 25

The post of Clerk comes with a fixed monthly emolument of ₹29,200/- as per the letter No. 1230 Spl/E.II/VII.B.4 (Pb.) 7-E dated 03.12.2024 from the Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh, subject to future revisions and updates from the Punjab Government.

Educational Qualification & Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts (B.A.) or Science (B.Sc.) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
  • Passed Matriculation Examination with Punjabi as a subject.
  • Skilled in computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software.

2. Stenographer Grade-III / Steno-Typist (Adhoc) – Total Posts: 7

The Stenographer Grade-III positions also come under the adhoc recruitment scheme to fill temporary vacancies. Candidates are expected to have proficiency in English shorthand, transcription, and computer skills.

Educational Qualification & Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (any stream) or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Pass in Matriculation with Punjabi as a subject.
  • Shorthand speed of 80 W.P.M. in English and transcription speed of 20 W.P.M.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Word Processing and Spreadsheets.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Candidates applying for these posts must be within the age range of 18 to 37 years as of 01.09.2025 for the General Category. Age relaxation is applicable as per Punjab Government and Hon’ble High Court rules for reserved categories, including SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Ex-Servicemen (ESM), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD). The number of vacancies mentioned above is tentative and may increase or decrease based on administrative requirements.

Selection Procedure

Clerk (Adhoc) – Selection Process

  1. Written Examination:
    Candidates must appear for a written test covering English Composition and General Knowledge.
    • English Composition – Maximum Marks: 50
    • General Knowledge – Maximum Marks: 50
    • Qualifying marks: 33% in each section
  2. Computer Proficiency Test:
    Candidates who qualify the written examination will be shortlisted for a Computer Proficiency Test, testing skills in Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and other office-related applications.

Stenographer Grade-III – Selection Process

  1. Shorthand and Transcription Test:
    Applicants are required to demonstrate proficiency in English shorthand at 80 W.P.M. and transcription at 20 W.P.M.
  2. Computer Proficiency Test:
    Candidates must exhibit their skills in Word Processing and Spreadsheet handling.

The venue and schedule for the tests and interviews will be notified on the official website of the District & Sessions Judge, Barnaba. No separate call letters will be sent, so candidates are advised to regularly check the website for updates.

Preference in Recruitment

Candidates with prior experience in the Judicial Department will be given preference:

  • For Clerks, preference will be given to candidates who have previously worked as clerks in the judicial system, provided they produce a valid experience certificate and no adverse remarks exist.
  • For Stenographers, candidates with prior experience as a stenographer in the judicial department will be preferred under similar conditions.

Reservation Policy

The recruitment follows the reservation norms of Punjab Government and the Hon’ble Punjab & Haryana High Court. Reservation is provided for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM, PHC, and Sports quota candidates. In the event that a suitable candidate from a reserved category is not available, the vacancy may be offered to a candidate from the General Category. Candidates from reserved categories must submit a valid certificate issued by competent authorities; otherwise, their application will be considered under the General Category.
