The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), a Deemed to be University under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, has officially released Advt. No. 01/2025 inviting online applications from eligible Indian citizens for faculty recruitment in the discipline of Journalism and Mass Communication.

As part of this recruitment drive, IIMC is offering 01 post of Professor and 20 posts of Assistant Professors across its main campus in New Delhi and regional centers in Aizawl (Mizoram), Amravati (Maharashtra), Dhenkanal (Odisha), Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir), and Kottayam (Kerala).

Reservation Policy

  • Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) will be considered as per Government of India norms for OH (Orthopedically Handicapped), HH (Hearing Handicapped), and VH (Visually Handicapped).
  • Horizontal reservation applies for PwBD candidates wherever applicable.

Pay Scale

The posts carry UGC-approved pay levels as per the 7th CPC (Central Pay Commission):

  • Professor: Level 14 (Entry Pay approx. ₹1,44,200/- per month)
  • Assistant Professor: Level 10 (Entry Pay approx. ₹57,700/- per month)

In addition, faculty members will receive allowances as per central government rules, including HRA, DA, and medical benefits.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility requirements are governed by the UGC Regulations, 2018 on minimum qualifications for appointment of teachers in universities and colleges, as amended from time to time.

1. Professor

Candidates must fulfill either option A or option B:

Option A:

  • Ph.D. degree in Mass Communication / Journalism / allied field.
  • Minimum of 10 publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals.
  • Total research score of 120 (as per UGC Appendix II, Table 2).
  • At least 10 years of teaching experience as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor in a university/college, or equivalent research experience.
  • Must have successfully guided at least one Ph.D. candidate.

Option B:

  • Outstanding professional with a Ph.D. in Mass Communication / Journalism / allied field.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in a recognized academic or industry institution.
  • Must demonstrate significant contribution to knowledge through published work or innovations.

2. Assistant Professor

Candidates must meet the following conditions:

Option A:

  • Master’s degree in Mass Communication / Journalism / allied subject with 55% marks (or equivalent grade).
  • Must have cleared NET (National Eligibility Test) conducted by UGC/CSIR, or equivalent SLET/SET.

Option B (Ph.D. Exemption):

  • Candidates awarded Ph.D. degrees under UGC (2009/2016 Regulations) are exempted from NET/SLET/SET.
  • Ph.D. must meet the following conditions:
    • Awarded through regular mode.
    • Evaluated by at least two external examiners.
    • Candidate has undergone open viva-voce.
    • At least two publications from Ph.D. research (one in a refereed journal).
    • At least two conference papers based on Ph.D. research presented at UGC/ICSSR/CSIR-supported events.
