The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, an autonomous research organization under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, has released Advertisement No. PER/07/2023 (Phase-V) inviting online applications for various project-based positions. Note: Emoluments for Project Manager and Executive Head (in case of retired employees) will be fixed as per Government of India rules.

Tenure and Nature of Appointment

• The appointment is purely temporary and contractual, initially up to 31 March 2026.
• Extension of tenure will be co-terminous with the project and based on satisfactory performance.

Eligibility Criteria (Highlights)

1. Project Scientist – III

• Qualification: Master’s degree in relevant Science or Engineering disciplines (Physics, Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Electronics, etc.) with 7 years of experience,
  or Ph.D. with experience in radar, NWP models, or atmospheric instrumentation.
• Desirable: Research experience, programming skills (Python, MATLAB, NCL, etc.), field campaign expertise, and familiarity with data formats (NetCDF, HDF, GRIB).

2. Project Scientist – II

• Qualification: Master’s degree in relevant Science/Engineering subjects with 3 years’ experience in atmospheric chemistry, AI/ML model development, NWP models, or instrumentation.
• Desirable: Ph.D., experience in WRF/WRF-Chem models, AI/ML applications in weather forecasting, and proficiency in coding (Fortran, Python, etc.).

3. Project Scientist – I

• Qualification: Master’s degree in Atmospheric Sciences/Meteorology/Physics/Mathematics or B.E./B.Tech with minimum 60% marks.
• Desirable: Experience in atmospheric chemistry, climate modeling, data analysis, and programming in Python/MATLAB/NCL.

4. Project Manager / Executive Head

• Qualification: Graduate or Postgraduate degree with extensive experience in administrative/project management roles, preferably in scientific organizations.
• Age Limit: Up to 62 years.

5. Section Officer / UDC

• Qualification: Bachelor’s degree with relevant clerical/administrative experience.
• Selection Mode: Based on written test performance.

Selection Process

• For Project Scientists, Project Manager, and Executive Head:
  Selection will be based on shortlisting and interview.
• For Section Officer and UDC:
  Selection will be based on written test performance.
• Shortlisting will depend on qualification, experience, and academic record.

Important Instructions

• Only Indian Nationals are eligible.
• Candidates must upload all documents online only — no hard copies will be accepted.
• Candidates applying for Scientific Posts (Sr. No. 1–5) must also submit a one-page research proposal.
• Applicants employed in Govt./PSU/Autonomous bodies must produce a No Objection Certificate during the selection process.
• No TA/DA will be paid for attending the test/interview (except for SC/ST candidates as per norms).
