Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh has released a rolling advertisement for contractual faculty positions on a temporary basis in various departments. The recruitment is aimed at filling positions of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor for a period of three years. Applications are invited from eligible Indian candidates across the country.

PEC will process applications twice a year, and shortlisted candidates will be called for a selection process including a seminar/sample teaching session and an interview.

2. Application Fees

  • General / OBC Candidates: Rs. 1,000/-
  • SC / ST / PwD / Women Candidates: Rs. 500/-
  • Payment mode: Online or as per PEC guidelines (refer to the official application form).

3. Age Limit

  • 18–65 years for faculty posts but candidates should meet the minimum qualifications and experience requirements.
  • Age and eligibility will be verified during the screening process.

4. Total Vacancies

PEC is recruiting faculty in 11 departments and centres. The total number of contractual faculty positions is 56, distributed as below:

5. Salary & Allowances

PEC offers a consolidated salary along with applicable Dearness Allowance (DA) for contractual faculty:

Additional benefits include:

  • House Rent Allowance (HRA) at applicable rates (campus accommodation not provided)
  • Professional Development Allowance: Up to Rs. 1 lakh/year for academic events within India
  • Seed Money for Lab Development: Rs. 10 lakh (in collaboration with regular faculty)
  • Contingency Grant: Rs. 2 lakh for professional development items
  • Applicable tax and statutory deductions will be made
  • New Pension Scheme (NPS): Only for candidates with existing PRAN

Note: There is no increment or additional allowances during the contract period.

6. Eligibility Criteria

Assistant Professor (Engineering, Design)

  • Ph.D. in the relevant branch
  • First class (or equivalent) at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels
  • Academic scores as per PEC’s Table-III considered for shortlisting
  • Final selection based on performance in seminar/interview

Assistant Professor (Sciences, Humanities, Arts)

  • Ph.D. in the relevant field
  • First class at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels
  • NET/SLET/SET qualified (Candidates with Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 may be exempted subject to conditions)

Associate Professor

  • Ph.D. in relevant field
  • Minimum 8 years of teaching/research experience
  • At least 7 publications in SCIE/SSCI/AHCI/ABDC indexed journals
  • Minimum research score of 75 as per PEC Table-IV

Professor

  • Ph.D. in relevant field
  • Minimum 10 years teaching/research experience
  • Minimum 10 research publications in SCIE/SSCI/AHCI/ABDC indexed journals
  • Minimum research score of 120 as per PEC Table-IV

  4. Electrical Engineering – Control Systems, Power Electronics, Power Systems, Electric Vehicles
  5. Electronics & Communication Engineering – VLSI, Embedded Systems, Photonics, Signal Processing, Quantum Technology
  6. Mechanical Engineering – CAD/CAM, Thermal Engineering, Tribology, Advanced Manufacturing, Robotics, Mechatronics
  7. Metallurgical & Materials Engineering – Materials Science, Metallurgy, Industrial Materials, Process Metallurgy

Candidates should have relevant specialization in B.Tech/BE, M.Tech/ME, M.Sc, M.A., MBA, or equivalent degrees as per the department.

8. Selection Procedure

PEC follows a transparent selection process:

  1. Screening based on academic and research scores (Table-III for Assistant Professors, Table-IV for Associate Professors/Professors)
  2. Shortlisting of candidates: Maximum 15 candidates per post, with 5 additional candidates for each extra post
  3. Selection Process: Seminar or sample teaching session + Personal interview
  4. Verification of documents: Academic, research, publications, awards, and experience certificates

Only self-attested documents are accepted. PEC will not entertain additional documents after submission.

9. How to Apply

  • Applications must be submitted in the prescribed format (Annexure-I of the official brochure)
  • Candidates applying for multiple departments should submit separate applications for each post
  • Hard copy of the application with self-attested photocopies of supporting documents should reach:

10. Reservations

  • As per Chandigarh Administration’s reservation roster
  • SC/OBC candidates must submit valid certificates issued on or after 01 April 2025
  • 5% relaxation in qualifying marks allowed for SC/OBC candidates at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels

11. Key Notes

  • No TA/DA will be provided for attending the selection process
  • Appointment is subject to medical fitness
  • PEC reserves the right to modify the number of posts or not fill any post
  • Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply
