Eligibility Criteria, Academic Qualifications & Experience Requirements
Candidates must satisfy both the academic / educational requirements and the minimum teaching / research experience specified for the respective posts. In addition, candidates with DNB qualifications will have their equivalence and teaching experience status judged as per National Medical Commission (NMC) notifications. All qualifications and experience must align with the latest NMC (or formerly MCI) norms.

Professor (RGSSH)
- Qualification: Superspecialty postgraduate degree (DM / M.Ch) in the concerned subject, in conformity with applicable TEQ (Teacher Eligibility Qualifications) regulations.
- Experience:
1. Minimum 3 years’ teaching experience as an Associate Professor in the relevant specialty in a recognized/permitted medical college/institution.
2. A minimum of 4 research publications, of which at least 2 should have been published while holding the Associate Professor position. Only original research papers, meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and case series published in indexed journals (Medline, PubMed Central, Science Citation Index / Expanded / Embase / Scopus / DoAJ) will be considered.
3. Must have completed the Basic Course in Medical Education Technology (as designated by NMC).
4. Must have completed a Basic Course in Biomedical Research from institutions recognized by NMC.
Associate Professor (RGSSH)
- Qualification: Superspecialty qualification (M.Ch / DM) in the concerned subject, in alignment with TEQ rules.
- Experience:
1. At least 2 years of service as Assistant Professor in the subject in a recognized/permitted medical institution.
2. A minimum of 2 research publications fulfilling NMC / TEQ guidelines.
3. Must have completed the Basic Course in Medical Education Technology (as per NMC).
4. Must have completed the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from institutions designated by NMC.
Assistant Professor (RGSSH)
- Qualification: Superspecialty degree (DM / M.Ch / DNB in the specialization) OR equivalent special training of three years in a recognized teaching institution / center of excellence, with dedicated services, in the relevant specialty.
Assistant Professor (RIMS)
- Qualification: MD / MS / DNB in the relevant specialty.
- Experience: At least one year of service as a Senior Resident in the relevant specialty in a recognized medical college/institution, following the postgraduate degree.
Additional for Assistant Professor (Anesthesiology, RGSSH)
- Must hold MD in Anesthesiology or DM in the branch.
- In addition, should have one year experience in cardiac surgery (i.e., prior exposure or service in cardiac surgery / cardiac anesthesia context).
Age Limits & Relaxation
The upper age limits prescribed (with category-wise relaxations) are:

In-service candidates are eligible for age relaxation as per Rule 6 of the General Recruitment Rules, 1997 (or applicable state/central rules).
Reservation & Local Cadre (Kalyana Karnataka 371(J)) Rules
- All the 41 posts are earmarked under the 371(J) local cadre (Kalyana Karnataka region) reservation quota.
- Candidates belonging to the Hyderabad Karnataka / Kalyana Karnataka region are considered “local persons” provided they furnish a valid eligibility certificate issued by the concerned Assistant Commissioner of the revenue jurisdiction (as per government orders).
- Applicants under local cadre may also be considered for residual parent cadre (RPC) posts automatically—i.e., if they qualify in the interview, no separate application is required for RPC.
- If qualified local candidates are unavailable for certain roster points, then eligible non-local candidates (meeting all criteria except local reservation) may be considered in the order of merit. Unfilled roster points may be treated as “missing roster” and carried forward to future recruitments.
- Apart from 371(J) reservation, rules for roster points for gender, rural candidates, ex-servicemen, physically handicapped, etc., will apply, as per the institute and state rules.
Rural Reservation:
- Candidates who have studied from classes 1 to 10 in government / rural institutions (as defined in state rules) are eligible to claim rural reservation.
- Proper certificates in prescribed formats must be produced.
- For SC / ST / Cat-I / other reserved communities, rural reservation certificates (Form2) must accompany caste certificates.
- General Merit candidates claiming rural reservation must also submit a Form-1 certificate (as per state rules).
- If a rural reservation certificate is found invalid, the candidate loses the rural quota eligibility (temporarily, but may still be considered under non-rural slot if eligible).
Physically Handicapped & Ex-Servicemen:
Applicants claiming reservation under these categories must submit valid certificates from competent authorities as per applicable rules.
Selection Process & Evaluation
- The selection will be conducted via an interview of shortlisted candidates.
- Shortlisting to the interview stage will be based on a merit criterion (considering academic credentials, teaching experience, publications, and other weightages as per institute bylaws).
- The performance in the interview will contribute to the final ranking / merit.
- The marks obtained under the local cadre interview shall also be considered if the candidate is being considered for the residual parent cadre (RPC) post.
- Candidates must bring originals and attested copies (2 sets) of all relevant documents at the time of interview. Documents must be attested by a gazetted officer.
- Candidates appointed must be physically and mentally fit for duty; any candidate with pending disciplinary, criminal antecedents, or blacklisted by medical councils will be disqualified.
- Misconduct such as impersonation, fraudulent documents, suppression of information, or use of unfair means will lead to disqualification and cancellation of candidature.
Pay Scale
The salary will be as per the Government of Karnataka’s pay structure for grant-in-aid autonomous medical institutions. AICTE or NMC-recommended scales will apply as relevant to each cadre.
- Professor: ₹1,44,200 – ₹2,18,200 (approx., Level 14)
- Associate Professor: ₹1,31,400 – ₹2,15,900 (approx., Level 13A)
- Assistant Professor: ₹1,01,500 – ₹1,67,400 (approx., Level 12)
Additionally, allowances and benefits such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Academic Incentives, and other government-approved facilities will be provided.
General Conditions & Mandatory Documents
- Only Indian citizens are eligible.
- Polygamy or being party to multiple marriages disqualifies candidacy under prevailing rules.
- If a candidate is currently in government service or in another medical college, a “No Objection Certificate” from the present employer must be furnished.
- Birth certificate or SSLC (10th standard) marks sheet must be submitted as proof of date of birth.
- Caste / category certificates (SC / ST / Category-1 / IIA / IIB / IIIA / IIIB) must be in prescribed forms and valid under state rules.
- Documents supporting rural study (1st to 10th standard) must be furnished for rural reservation claims.
- Candidates applying under local cadre must submit the valid Kalyana Karnataka eligibility certificate from the appropriate authority.
- All claim of experience or prior service must be supported by salary certificate, experience certificate, and Form 16 (or equivalent) issued by the employer.
- Two sets of self-attested photocopies of all documents must be submitted along with originals at the time of interview.
- The candidate should have passed the Kannada language examination (as first or second language) in SSLC or equivalent; such candidates will be exempted from the Kannada test requirement.
