The Southern Railway has released a notification for the recruitment of Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961, offering candidates an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on training in various technical and medical trades. This program provides practical experience in workshops, hospitals, and IT units across Southern Railway divisions and is aimed at candidates looking to develop a professional career in the railway sector.

Candidates selected under this apprenticeship will receive training in trades such as Fitter, Welder, Electrician, Turner, Mechanic, Carpenter, Plumber, Electronics Mechanic, MLT (Medical Laboratory Technician), and more.

Salary / Stipend

Apprentices will receive monthly stipends as per the Apprentices Act, 1961:

Trade CategoryMonthly Stipend
Non-ITI / Fresher₹7,700 – ₹8,500 approx.
ITI / Ex-ITI₹9,000 – ₹9,500 approx.
MLT / Medical Trades₹10,000 – ₹12,000 approx.

Eligibility

  1. Educational Qualification:
    • Fresher: 10th/Matriculation pass
    • Ex-ITI: ITI certificate in relevant trade
    • MLT Trades: Diploma or certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology
  2. Residency Requirement:
    • Candidate must reside in Southern Railway jurisdiction: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar, SPSR Nellore & Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh, Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.
  3. Medical Fitness:
    • Must meet physical and medical standards as per Apprenticeship Rules, 1992
    • It is necessary to obtain a certificate from a Government Gazetted Medical Officer. Make sure to submit your application by 25th September 2025 at 5:00 PM.
  4. Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD):
    • Reservation: 4%
    • Minimum 40% disability required for eligibility
    • Certificates issued by a Competent Authority
