The Thoothukudi District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) is inviting applications from eligible and committed individuals to serve as volunteer legal assistants in its offices across the district and associated divisional offices. This initiative is part of the authority’s efforts to strengthen legal aid and provide support to vulnerable and marginalized communities, including women, the elderly, students, and the economically disadvantaged.

The role of volunteer legal assistants is purely voluntary and non-official, aimed at enhancing the delivery of legal aid services and assisting the district in community-oriented legal work. Selected volunteers will support the operations of the DLSA and its divisional offices in promoting legal literacy, helping citizens navigate the legal system, and ensuring access to justice for those in need.

These positions are intended solely for volunteer engagement to assist the legal services authority in delivering services to the community.

3. Application Fee

There is no application fee for applying to these volunteer positions. Applicants can submit their applications without any financial requirement.

Eligibility Criteria

The Thoothukudi DLSA seeks volunteers with specific qualifications, experience, and personal attributes to ensure effective delivery of legal aid services.

A. Educational Qualification

  • Minimum Education: 10th Standard (Matriculation) pass.
  • Computer Knowledge: Basic familiarity with computers is desirable.

  • Note: These positions are non-official and purely voluntary, so no permanent salary or benefits are attached.

Roles and Responsibilities

Volunteer legal assistants are expected to perform the following duties:

  1. Assist the District and Divisional Legal Services Committees in outreach programs to educate communities about legal rights and access to justice.
  2. Support senior legal officers in conducting legal literacy camps, awareness workshops, and legal aid clinics.
  3. Help citizens fill legal forms, submit applications, or prepare necessary documents for cases in courts or tribunals.
  4. Act as a liaison between the legal services authority and marginalized communities, women, children, senior citizens, and other vulnerable groups.
  5. Coordinate with local NGOs, self-help groups, and social organizations to ensure effective delivery of services.
  6. Provide voluntary assistance during special legal events, court visits, and awareness campaigns organized by the DLSA.

Selection Process

The selection process for volunteer legal assistants is designed to ensure that committed and suitable candidates are recruited:

  1. Application Submission:
    Candidates must submit the completed application form either directly or via postal service before the closing date.
  2. Screening:
    Applications will be reviewed for minimum education, age, experience, and alignment with the volunteer role.
  3. Interview / Interaction:
