The Government of Tamil Nadu has opened a landmark recruitment drive for Assistant Professors in 2025. Through the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), the state invites applications for 2,708 Assistant Professor posts under the Tamil Nadu Collegiate Educational Service. These positions will be filled in Government Arts and Science Colleges as well as Government Colleges of Education.

Application Fee

The examination and application fee must be paid online only.

  • General Category: Rs. 600/-
  • SC, SCA, ST & Differently Abled Candidates: Rs. 300/-

Exemption: Candidates who had already paid the fee during the cancelled 2019 and 2024 notifications are exempted from paying again. However, they must still apply afresh.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

  • Candidates must not have completed 57 years of age as on July 1, 2025.
  • Age relaxation is available for candidates who had applied under the cancelled 2019 and 2024 notifications.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must fulfill one of the following conditions:

  1. Master’s Degree with NET/SET/Ph.D.
    • A Master’s degree in the concerned subject with at least 55 marks.
    • A relaxation of 5% (50% marks) for SC, ST, MBC/DNC, BC, BCM, and Differently Abled categories.
    • Must have cleared NET/SLET/SET conducted by UGC/CSIR or Tamil Nadu SET.
    • Exemption: Ph.D. holders awarded under UGC Regulations 2009 or 2016 are exempted from NET/SLET/SET.
  2. Ph.D. from a Recognized Foreign University
    • Candidates with a Ph.D. from one of the Top 500 global universities as per QS, THE, or ARWU rankings are eligible.
  3. Special Requirement (Presidency College Recruitment)
    • For teaching Hearing Impaired students: Senior Diploma in Teaching the Deaf or Special B.Ed. in Hearing Impairment.

Language Requirement

  • Adequate knowledge of Tamil is mandatory.
  • If Tamil was not studied in school/college, candidates must pass a Tamil language test conducted by TNPSC within two years of appointment.

Pay Scale

  • Named campaigners will be placed in Level 10 of the pay matrix.
  • Salary Range: Rs. 57,700 – Rs. 1,82,400, along with applicable allowances.

This pay band offers both financial stability and professional recognition in the higher education sector.

Selection Process

The recruitment process consists of multiple stages:

  1. Written Examination (200 Marks)
    • Paper I – Part A (Tamil, 50 Marks): Qualifying exam. Candidates must score at least 40% for evaluation of other papers.
    • Paper I – Part B (Subject, 150 Marks): Objective type questions based on the chosen subject.
    • Paper II (General Topics, 50 Marks): Descriptive paper covering Constitution, History, Economy, Environment, etc.
  2. Teaching Experience (Maximum 15 Marks)
    • Guest Lecturers/Assistant Professors in Govt./Aided/Private Colleges will get 2 marks per completed academic year, up to 15 marks.
  3. Interview (15 Marks)
    • Assesses subject knowledge, communication, teaching aptitude, and language skills.

Minimum Qualifying Marks:

  • General Category: 40% in written exam.
  • Reserved Categories: 35% in written exam.

Reservation Policy

The Tamil Nadu government’s reservation system will apply:

  • Vertical Reservation: 69% seats reserved for SC (18%), SC(A), ST (1%), BC (26.5%), BCM (3.5%), and MBC/DNC (20%).
  • Horizontal Reservation:
    • 30% for Women.
    • 4% for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD).
    • Reservation for PSTM (Persons Studied in Tamil Medium).
