The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department has initiated the appointment cycle for Principals and Assistant Teachers in state-aided junior high schools. This hiring phase follows the freshly declared outcomes of the 2021 selection examination, updated as of September 2022. The entire procedure is governed by the Seventh Amendment (2019) of the Uttar Pradesh Recognized Basic Schools Teachers Recruitment and Service Conditions Rules from 1978.

Individuals who have now passed this reassessed examination are qualified to proceed with their applications.

The application fee is non-refundable and must be paid online during the submission of the application form.

  • Assistant Teacher: 1,504 vacancies

Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational and Training Qualification

Candidates must fulfill the minimum educational and training requirements as per Rule 4 of the UP Recognized Basic Schools (Junior High School) Teachers Recruitment Rules, 1978 (Seventh Amendment) Rules 2019:

  • Assistant Teacher: Bachelor’s degree with a relevant teacher-training qualification (B.Ed., BTC, D.El.Ed. or equivalent).
  • Principal: Bachelor’s degree, teacher-training qualification, and verified teaching experience in junior high schools as per district guidelines.

2. Age Limit

1. Assistant Teacher (Junior High School):

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 40 years
  • Relaxation:
    • SC/ST: +5 years
    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): +3 years
    • Divyang / PH candidates: +10 years
    • Government employees / ex-servicemen: as per UP government norms

2. Principal / Head Master (Junior High School):

  • Minimum Age: 25 years
  • Maximum Age: 45 years

3. Nationality

  • Must be a citizen of India.

4. Residency

  • Candidates should have been a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh for at least five continuous years prior to 01 March 2021.

5. Reservation

  • Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/EWS and other categories will be applied as per Uttar Pradesh government norms.

6. Marital Status

  • Male candidates cannot have more than one living wife.
  • Female candidates cannot be married to a man who already has a living wife.

7. Character

  • Candidates dismissed from government service, debarred from appointment, or convicted of a moral or criminal offense are not eligible.

Approximate Salary

A. Assistant Teacher (Junior High School)

  • Position: Classroom Educator (Grades 6-8)
  • Government Pay Scale: ₹29,200 – ₹92,300 (U.P. Aided Schools, 7th CPC)
  • Pay Level: 10
  • Estimated Monthly Earnings: ₹35,000 – ₹45,000
    • Final in-hand salary is subject to experience-based increments and various allowances (HRA, DA, etc.).

B. Principal / Headmaster (Junior High School)

  • Position: School Leader & Administrator
  • Government Pay Scale: ₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400 (U.P. Aided Schools, 7th CPC)
  • Pay Level: 12
  • Estimated Monthly Earnings: ₹50,000 – ₹65,000
    • Compensation varies based on individual experience, school size, and location within Uttar Pradesh.

Selection Process Overview

The recruitment of Assistant Teachers follows a structured merit-based system as per the rules:

Merit Calculation:

Candidates are evaluated using a weighted score system:

  • High School marks: 10%
  • Intermediate marks: 10%
  • Graduation marks: 10%
  • Teacher Training Qualification: 10%
  • 2021 Selection Exam: 60%

Tie-Breaking Rules:

  • In case of equal scores, older candidates are given priority.
  • If ages are also identical, names are sorted alphabetically in English.

Category-Wise Consideration:

  • Selection lists are prepared subject-wise and category-wise.
  • Unreserved candidates are prioritized first, followed by candidates from reserved categories.
  • Reserved category candidates who benefit from age relaxation are not eligible for unreserved posts.

School Allotment:

  • Shortlisted candidates submit their school preferences.
  • District Basic Education Officers verify all documents and forward the final list to school authorities.
  • Schools then issue appointment letters to the selected candidates.
