The West Bengal Health Recruitment Board (WBHRB) has officially announced the recruitment of General Duty Medical Officers (GDMO) under a Special Drive for Reserved Categories (Second Cycle) in 2025. This initiative is undertaken by the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal, to fill vacancies in reserved categories through a direct recruitment process. The appointment will initially be temporary, but likely to become permanent based on performance and government requirements. The recruitment aims to provide new opportunities for qualified medical professionals in reserved communities to serve under the West Bengal Health Service and strengthen the state’s public healthcare infrastructure.

The WBHRB has announced a total of 403 vacancies for the General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO) post under this special recruitment drive. The category-wise vacancy details are as follows:

- Scheduled Tribe (ST): 206 posts
- OBC Category-A: 1 post
- OBC Category-B: 64 posts
- Unreserved (Persons with Disabilities – PWD): 119 posts

Scale of Pay
Selected candidates for the post of General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO) will receive a Basic Pay of ₹56,100/- per month under Pay Matrix Level-16 as per WBS (ROPA) Rules, 2019, along with other admissible allowances as per government norms. This ensures an attractive salary structure and additional benefits under the West Bengal Health Service.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the WBHRB GDMO Recruitment 2025 must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
Educational Qualification
- The candidate must hold an MBBS degree included in the First Schedule, Second Schedule, or Part-II of the Third Schedule of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956).
- The candidate must be registered as a Medical Practitioner in the Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council.
- Selected candidates, if not already registered with the West Bengal Medical Council, must obtain registration within six months of joining.
Experience
- Experience is desirable but not mandatory.
- Additional marks will be awarded to candidates with experience in Government or private hospitals or as independent practitioners.
Age Limit
- For MBBS Graduates: Maximum 36 years as on 1 January 2025.
- For Postgraduate Degree Holders: Maximum 40 years as on 1 January 2025.
- Age Relaxations:
- SC / ST: 5 years
- OBC (A & B): 3 years
- PWD (Unreserved): 9 years
- Ex-Servicemen: 5 years
- Doctors with prior government service (regular or contractual): relaxation up to 5 years, depending on service period.
Application Fee
- Application Fee: ₹210/- (Rupees Two Hundred Ten Only)
- The fee must be submitted online through banks participating in the Government Receipt Portal System (GRIPS).
- Mode of Payment: Online only (No cash, cheque, money order, or demand draft accepted).
- Exemptions:
- Candidates belonging to SC / ST of West Bengal and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) are exempted from paying the application fee.
- OBC candidates are not exempted and must pay the prescribed fee.
No request for refund of the application fee will be entertained under any circumstances.
Selection Process
The recruitment for WBHRB GDMO 2025 will be conducted through Direct Recruitment based on academic merit, professional experience, and interview performance. The detailed selection process is as follows:
- Academic Marks: 70 marks
- Experience Marks: 15 marks
- Interview Marks: 15 marks
Marking Criteria for Qualification:
- Marks will be awarded based on the percentage of marks obtained in the MBBS Degree.
- Deductions will apply for multiple attempts (0.5 marks deducted per extra attempt, up to a maximum of 2.5 marks).
Marking Criteria for Experience:
- Less than 6 months: 0 marks
- 6 to 24 months: 3 marks
- 24 to 36 months: 6 marks
- 36 to 48 months: 9 marks
- 48 to 60 months: 12 marks
- 60 months and above: 15 marks
A Written Test or Computer-Based Test (CBT) may be introduced if required for shortlisting candidates before the interview.
Reservation and Relaxation
This recruitment is specifically a special drive for reserved categories. Hence, no unreserved candidates (except UR-PWD) are eligible to apply.
The category-wise relaxation criteria are as follows:
- SC/ST: 5 years relaxation in age and full exemption from the fee.
- OBC (A & B): 3 years relaxation in age (no fee exemption).
- PWD (UR): 9 years relaxation and full fee exemption.
- Doctors serving under the State Government: Relaxation in age up to the equivalent of their regular or contractual service, subject to a maximum limit.

Instructions to Candidates
- Departmental candidates are eligible, but those in regular government service should not apply.
