The Central Sector NMMS Scholarship provides financial assistance to meritorious students who come from low-income households. The scholarship is offered by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and implemented by State Governments/UT Administrations.
In West Bengal, the examination for NMMS 2025 will be organized by the Directorate of School Education across various examination centres in the state.
The scholarship can be availed from Class IX to Class XII, provided the selected student continues to meet the academic and eligibility conditions every year.

Scholarship Details (Pay Scale)
The NMMS scholarship provides financial assistance from Class IX to Class XII as follows:
Scholarship Amount:
- ₹12,000 per year (₹1,000 per month) per student
This scholarship is credited directly into the student’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Students receive the scholarship each year as long as they:
- Maintain minimum academic standards
- Continue studying in Government / Government-Aided schools
- Do not drop out
- Meet annual renewal conditions
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for NMMS 2025, students must fulfill all the conditions listed below:
A. School Eligibility
Students must be studying in Class VIII in:
- Government Schools
- Government Aided Schools
- Local Body Schools
- Government Sponsored Schools
- Recognized Madrasahs (non-residential)
Not Eligible:
The following students cannot apply:
- Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV)
- Students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV)
- Students of State Government residential schools
- Students studying in private schools
B. Academic Criteria
- Must have scored at least 55% marks in the Class VII final examination
- Relaxation: SC, ST, and Disabled candidates get 5% relaxation, so they need 50% marks
C. Parental Income
Parental income from all sources should not exceed ₹3,50,000 per year.
Income Certificate Requirements:
- Salaried parents (Govt., Semi-Govt., Govt.-Aided organizations):
Upload employer certificate for the financial year 01.04.2024–31.03.2025. - Other professions:
Income certificate issued by:- Joint BDO
- Executive Officer (Municipality/Corporation)
- Any Group-A Officer
For income period 01.04.2024–31.03.2025
D. Disability (for PwD candidates)
- Must have 40% or above disability
- Disability Certificate must be issued by a State/Central Government Medical Board

- Head of Institution Certificate (signed with seal)
- Parental Income Certificate
- Caste Certificate (if applicable)
- Disability Certificate (if applicable)
- Recent Passport Size Photograph (JPG ≤ 50 KB, 3.5 × 4.5 cm)
- Aadhaar card (optional but recommended)
- Bank Passbook (account in student’s name)

The NMMS exam consists of two tests conducted on the same day:
A. Mental Ability Test (MAT)

Other Important Exam Rules
- No negative marking
- Extra time will be provided to students with disabilities
- Questions follow Class VII–VIII syllabus level
- Question papers are objective with one mark for each question
State Quota and Selection Method
Total NMMS Quota for West Bengal (2025):
7,250 Scholarships
These are divided among 23 districts + 2 educational districts (Barrackpore & Siliguri).
Selection Process
- Students appear for MAT and SAT.
- The total marks from both tests decide the merit list.
- District-wise quotas are applied.
- If scores tie at the last cutoff:
- Younger student (by date of birth) is given preference.
- Final selection is subject to:
- Eligibility verification
- Document validation
- School category confirmation
Very Important:
If a selected candidate is later found to be studying in:
- Private school
- KV
- JNV
- Residential school
→ The scholarship will be cancelled immediately.

West Bengal includes two special educational districts:
1. Barrackpore Education District
Covers:
- Barrackpore
- Bidhannagar (Salt Lake)
If your school is here → Select Barrackpore District, NOT North 24 Parganas or Kolkata.
2. Siliguri Education District
Covers:
- Siliguri subdivision
If your school is here → Select Siliguri District, NOT Darjeeling.
Application Process (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Visit Official Portal

Step 2: Online Registration
- Enter basic details
- Create login ID and password
- Fill the application form carefully
Step 3: Upload Documents
Upload all required scanned documents:
- Income certificate
- Caste certificate
- Disability certificate
- Photograph
- Head of Institution certificate
- Bank details
Ensure each document meets the required size and format.
Step 4: Download School Certificate
- Print the filled-in application
- Get it signed by the Head of the Institution with school seal
- Upload the signed certificate to your account
Without this, the application is invalid.
Step 5: Submit Application
After reviewing all details, click final submit.
Step 6: Admit Card
- Admit card notification will appear in the Notice Section
- Students must download and print the admit card before the exam
Reasons for Rejection
Applications may be rejected due to:
- Wrong or false information
- Incomplete form
- Missing documents
- Incorrect income certificate
- Photograph not as per format
- Wrong district selection
- Unverified certificate from Head of Institution
- Studying in an ineligible school (private/KV/JNV/residential)
